Niche markets provide a product or service for a specific group of customers who have very specific needs. One of the biggest mistakes that new online business owners make is ignoring the concept of niche marketing and focusing on big markets that appear to be big moneymakers.

While this can be quite tempting, there is simply too much competition in the big markets. Those who are new to the online business world don’t stand a chance of competing against companies who have already cornered the market.

With niche marketing, it is a different story. Entrepreneurs can significantly increase their chances of success by focusing on specific niche markets. You determine a need and develop products and services that will satisfy that need.

Niche marketing also provides you with an opportunity to market to a very specific audience. By targeting your audience, you can easily tailor advertising and promotional campaigns that are almost guaranteed to work.

By now, you’re probably wondering how to go about finding niche markets. Fortunately, it’s much easier than one would think. The key is to find a group large enough to produce a reasonable volume of business, but small enough to be looked over by your competition.

The following steps will teach you the ins and outs of finding a niche market.

Step One
The first step involves research and may take some time on your part. If you need to, break these research sessions up over a span of a few days. This will ensure that you have ample time to properly research potential niche markets.

To start, open two Internet windows. Set one at www.google.com and set the other at http://inventory.overture.com.

Step Two
To find niche marketing opportunities, start doing a few searches in these search engines. Try basic products that you may be interested in selling, such as digital cameras, computer software, or Siamese cat toys.

y entering products into these two search engines, you can find out the number of searches the products have per month and determine how much competition exists in the market. Google and similar search engines will tell you how many results pages are out there for a specific search term, allowing you to gauge the extent of your competition, and http://inventory.overture.com will help you determine what sort of customer base you have be telling you how many people entered a specific search term in a given month.

Step Three
Analyze your findings. The level of competition that can be found in the market determines the best niche markets to get into. Though some competition is good, too much competition is bad. Niche marketing only works if there is demand and a market for the product or service that is being sold.

Though opinion varies when it comes to the numbers, in general, a word that has between 10,000 and 2,000,000 searches per month is considered an opportunity for niche marketing. Let’s see some examples:

Example 1
Digital Camera
The term yielded 1,312,659 searches and 239,000,000 results pages. This is a big market with plenty of competition.

Example 2
Computer Software
The term yielded 101,294 searches and 1,550,000,000 results pages. This is a big market with HUGE levels of competition.

Example 3
Siamese Cat
The term yielded 16,314 searches and 1,800,000 results pages. Niche marketing could work here! This has high search volume relative to competition.

Step Four
Choose your niche. Now that you have some niche markets to choose from, you can find the one that is the best fit for you. Afterwards, all that is left to do is enjoy your niche marketing experience.

What does niche marketing mean? Niche marketing is about finding small opportunities on the web, small areas in which people might be interested and for which they might be searching. Big companies and experienced webmasters are not interested in these areas because they are not important enough. But a small business could be something in which you might be interested.

Perhaps a small mini website will not generate thousands of dollars every month; it might generate 100 bucks, for example. That is ok, if the effort involved in terms of creating this mini website is not too high; in this way, you could repeat the same business model again and again. Taking into consideration that every small business could generate around $100 every month, with ten niches, you could earn $1.000 monthly. Does this sound better? And what if you could create 50 websites?

The first step in this kind of business is always keyword research. You need to find small markets which do not have competition. Wordtrack is a very good tool to use for finding niche opportunities. For every keyword, it tells you the number of searches and how many results are found on each search engine. You need to pay special attention to the KEI column. KEI is the index that balances the number of searches and the number of competitors. The more searches and the fewer the competitors, the better for you. A KEI higher than 10 is good, but you should, ideally, look at keywords with a KEI over 100. More than 400 is a gift.

Once you have identified your niche, you need to find content for it. Don`t worry about which product you are going to sell; this will come later. The “fuel” of any Internet business is content. So where can you find content? Well, if you are an expert in an area, you could write your own articles, but if you are not, you have to look for content somewhere else.

There are many article directories that offer a lot of content that you can use. You can also find much content just by searching the web. Use search engines, find blogs, forums, websites, etc. Last, but not least, you can always find information as in “the old times,” go to the library or buy one or two books.

After you have found enough content, it is time to register a domain name. You should choose a name that has something to do with your target market, but if your intention is to create multiple mini websites, you don’t need to register a different domain name every time. You can save money by having one global domain name, and create sub domains for each business.

The question now is, “Since everything looks good, how do I make money with these sites?” You need to follow this 3 step formula (CTM):

- Create Content
– Generate Traffic
– Monetize your website

You can build traffic by optimizing the webpage content for the search engines and by analyzing your competitors in order to build a better SEO strategy (but this is another chapter). Blogging and pinging is a way to make sure that your site will be spidered by the search engines. WordPress is a very good option for creating your blog, as it allows you to post, not only articles, but pages. You can easily build miniwebsites with WordPress. Finally, there are three easy ways to earn money with your site.

1. Sell some product that you can create yourself. If you have this ability and you want to allow people to buy your products with a credit card, the easiest way is to create a Paypal account. If you don’t have one, visit www.paypal.com and create one.

2. Join affiliate programs. Find people who sell products related to your market niche and who have affiliate programs already set up. You will earn commissions just by selling other people’s items. A good place to find affiliate programs on products is www.clickbank.com.

3. Google Adsense. Create an account at Google Adsense and include Google ads on your site. Every time someone visits your site and clicks one of those ads, Google will share its profit with you.

Creating small businesses is like a game. They do not require high investment, but they will not make you rich either. However, if you start playing many of those games, it can become a serious business.

There are a lot of people who would love to be able to create a cool informational product and be able to make a great living (even get rich) while sitting in a comfy chair in front of their computers knowing that never again would they have to drive in rush hour traffic with all those crazies or put up with an unrelenting, over zealous boss who never had and never would or could be pleased. What a beautiful vision! The truth is that that lovely vision can become a reality but you will have to pay your dues first. Successful niche markets for an informational product don’t grow on trees or fall out of the sky.

The first thing you need and must have to create an informational product is an idea…a subject…a topic…that will fill the needs, solve a problems, or just make life better for some particular and very specific segment of the general population. You are surrounded by ideas if you just look. Look at yourself first. What is your biggest problem? Do your friends share the problem? Are you passionate about a hobby or a sport? These kinds of things are the stuff of which informational products are made of. So the very first thing you need is to identify a topic and, thereby, a market.

Another thing that you need to have in order to create an informational product which will become successful is research. Every topic and every subject are not going to make money. Many of them will…but just as many will not. The best research is accomplished by reading and talking to people who have succeeded in niche marketing informational products. Savvy niche marketers can spot a great topic from forty paces with one eye shut. Ask. Read. Research.

When you have an idea and have done the research that has proven that there is a market for your informational product, the rest is just a matter of creating the product building a great website and advertising it.

Specializing in Niche Markets has never been as crucial as it is today. Long gone are the days when you can target general, broad markets and make money from them.

To make money in today’s Internet Marketing environment, one must specialize in well defined niche topics.

Lets examine a few misconceptions when it comes to niche marketing.

Misconception #1: You do not have to be an expert in the Niche field you choose!

Everyone says you should only choose a Niche that you are an expert in…nonsense!

The Internet is so impersonal that you can easily appear as an expert and not know anything about that particular niche topic. The key is to appear as an expert. How? You can outsource, build niche sites with no interaction such as blogs, purchase resale rights to an ebook in a particular niche. You see, you can choose to profit from any niche you like.

Misconception #2: Choose one niche market and stick with it.

Not true! Once you establish yourself in one niche and develop a profitable system, choose another one and run with it. You can even choose a pen name if you like, it’s common practice to do so.

Niche marketing is a numbers game. Once you find a profitable niche put it on auto-pilot and choose another niche market to get into.

Misconception #3: The best way to make money in the niche game is to promote niche products as an affiliate.

Wrong again! Sure, becoming an affiliate and promoting niche products can be very profitable, but if you are doing this, you’re not maximizing your income.

You need to promote your own landing or squeeze page where you collect the e-mail address of the visitor, and then sending him or her to the niche product you are promoting. You should also send out an e-mail course with informative information pertaining to that particular niche market to gain the visitors trust. Since your subscriber now trusts you, you can recommend products in that niche again and again, knowing your recommendation holds a lot of weight.

Those are three popular misconceptions when it comes to niche marketing. Follow the tips above, and you will be more likely to succeed. Remember, it is important to find a profitable niche, set it up so it is on auto-pilot, then move on to the next niche.

Not all niche markets will be a slam dunk, so don’t get discouraged.

Even if one out of ten become really profitable, sit down and smile, you’ve hit the jackpot.

Make Money Online Using Affiliate Niche Marketing Programs

Without a doubt, the best home based business anywhere in the world is affiliate marketing.

If you have heard that the market is over saturated, don’t believe that mess! The only people who would say such a thing are those who failed in affiliate niche marketing programs. It isn’t the programs; it is the marketers who fail to succeed. If you could telephone a top dog marketer and ask them which affiliate programs are the worst, do you know what they would tell you?.

If you are interested in making money online, and do have upfront money to shell out for AdWords I would suggest a few things to get started:

Find out what it is that you will promote with Google AdWords.

That is the most important part of becoming rich online. You have to pick the right products, and services to promote. Ask yourself what it is you want to do: Affiliate marketing? Marketing your own business? Do you have a website? Having Trouble Coming Up With Ideas For What You Want To Promote Using Google? Don’t make it a big deal. Think about your passions? What is it that you live for? Believe me when I say this: “You make more money in the long run when you promote something that you have a passion for.”.

Search online for some of these Niche Markets And Signup for Their Affiliates Program If You Are Interested In Affiliate Marketing:

1. Teeth Whitening
2. Weight Loss
3. Colon Cleansing Products
4. Dating Advice or Online Dating Sites

Those are just a few top earnings potential markets for you to start looking into for Affiliate Marketing. If you end up going with one of them or any niche market remember to research what others are doing. Wicked Fire is a good place to start. They have a bunch of Affiliate Marketers that share what programs they are using, as well as offer great advice for newbies looking to create their own landing pages. Its also a great place to read about or get advice for creating your first Google AdWords Campaign.

Even if your goal looks absolutely insane on paper, that is good.

The higher you aim, the farther you will climb. The next thing you need to do is research what you want to promote. Start with one affiliate niche marketing program and put all your effort and energy into creating a really bullet proof campaign. There will be plenty of time for branching off after you have one launch that is converting.

Find Some Good Keywords – Go to Google and find some low competition high search volume keywords that you can write your articles on. Look for keywords with less than 10,000 competing pages when you put the keyword in quotes.

You need to learn how to do good copywriting.

Either that or you need to hire a top quality writer to get this done for you. Bad copy will loose you more conversions that having a confusing page. That’s the other thing, to make money with any affiliate niche marketing program; you need to focus on one promotion per page. You can’t have 70 outgoing links to a bunch of different stuff. There should never be more than one way to leave your page and that should only lead to the conversion.

Finding the right niche can make or break your online business. Often, people trying to get into Internet marketing often stumble on this step, because they simply have no idea which markets are worth getting into. Not surprisingly, nobody wants to spend months creating a website that receives very little traffic simply because there is very little demand for the topic in question.

So, how does one go about finding hot niche markets? Some Internet marketers suggest choosing a niche that you are either enthusiastic about or are familiar with. While this may happen in the end, the better approach is to determine what people are truly searching for and base your online business around that. Determining the demand of a particular niche is the very first step.

One way to do this is to use some free tools, such as the free Wordtracker keyword tool (http://freekeywords.wordtracker.com). Type in a search term and Wordtracker will return the amount of daily searches for up to 100 related terms. You want to choose a term that has a decent number of daily searches – any number 10 or greater is worth considering. You may notice that the fewer number of words in a particular search term, the more searches it generally gets. Conversely, search terms that contain more words get less traffic, but are usually easier to rank for.

Next, go to Google (http://www.google.com) and type one of the search terms in quotes. In the upper right hand corner of the search results page, you’ll see the number of pages indexed by Google that are exact matches for your search term. In most cases, when you are just starting niche marketing, try to choose terms that have 20,000 or fewer competing pages when using exact match. Anything higher than this will require some heavy duty SEO to rank well.

Once you find that a certain subject with decent search volume and relatively low competition, it’s time to head over to the Google Adwords Tool (https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal) to see if there is any money in the market. Type in your phrase and find out if there are any advertisers bidding for your search phrase. If there are a good number of advertisers, it suggests that there is indeed money to be made in your market. If there are no advertisers, the search phrase you’ve chosen may not be commercial in nature, and thus may be difficult to make money with.

You’ve now discovered a niche that has excellent search volume, low competition, and good monetization potential. Once you know how to find quality niches like these, you will be well on your way to earning some serious money online with niche marketing.

Master niche marketer Alex Goad is reopening his revolutionary Google Conquest program on June 16th. Since the launch in December 2008, Google Conquest members have been happily earning a bunch of money online, and on June 16th, Alex will finally be taking new members into this powerful Internet and niche marketing system.
