Twitter has been one of the biggest sites for over a year now, people are literally obsessed with tweeting. But the main problem with Twitter is that it has never really had a business plan or model before. If you look at the likes of Facebook who are now earning millions if not billions of pounds worth of gross income from ads.
But as of late Twitter have been putting a new design on their homepage and if you visit it, it looks a lot like a search engine. Is this the avenue that Twitter should be taking? And should they really be going up against Google.
Ok all is well and good searching for actual time conversations but I think and feel that Twitter will not stand a chance next to Google if they do not actually begin crawling sites and ranking them based on popularity and babble.
They can of course keep the chatter and talk going but what happens when people actually want to see information about a site that has buzz.
But if Twitter actually think about this carefully then they could begin to out smart the likes of Google and Microsoft. Instead of looking for ways to rank sites based on links and citations they can look at doing it all in house. Twitter will grow to reach every place in the world so anything that is currently being talked about deserves to get the coverage and because it is all controlled by Twitter they will easily be able to control the spam.
Anyhow if this does happen you can expect that Google will be doing everything in their power to take control of Twitter and integrate the algo into their search.
