Deciding to become an entrepreneur and start an online business can be unnerving, especially when you consider all of the hyped up claims of how “you too” can become the next overnight Internet success story. Although somewhat difficult it’s still possible to find a profitable and legitimate online business.
When we initially wrote this article, we hopped on the Internet and performed a search on the terms “How to start an online business?” and “How to start an Internet based business.” The results were staggering; both searches returned over 200 million results each.
Take note that both searches began with the word “HOW.” Wouldn’t the “WHAT” come first? Think about it for a moment, don’t you typically decide “WHAT” you want to do before determining “HOW” you’re going to do it. For instance, would you figure out how to install flooring in your house before knowing what type of floor you want to install?
Putting the “WHAT” before the “HOW” is essential when starting an online business. Don’t underestimate or overlook the importance of “WHAT.” You can avoid many hours of frustration by simply determining “WHAT” you want to achieve before deciding “HOW” to achieve it.
Using ourselves as the example, we decided ‘WHAT” we wanted to achieve before we began exploring the vast amount of opportunities found online. For us, the “right” opportunity had to allow us the freedom to work wherever and whenever we wanted while replacing or increasing the income from our present jobs. The opportunity also had to offer value and allow us to create wealth and success in others.
Knowing that, we quickly eliminated many of the opportunities found online today. Opportunities such as online surveys, medical billing, etc. as opportunities such as these would have only minimally supplemented our income. The same went for the other ever popular yet unappealing alternative, MLM, as the marketplace for lotions, potions and pills, etc. would have potentially required us to establish a massive downline and as a result, profits would have been diluted over to many levels.
In order to completely replace our income we knew we had to sell a valuable “in demand” product or service. We determined it would be less time consuming and less difficult to sell a $1000.00 product or service than it would be to sell one whose cost was $10.00. For example, marketing 10 $1000.00 products would be easier than marketing a 1000 $10.00 products.
Once you’ve identified the “WHAT” and are ready to begin researching the “HOW,” here are a few tips to help you find a legitimate online business opportunity:
*If it appears to good to be true it probably is, remember to trust your gut.
*All legitimate opportunities will require some startup capital, avoid those who advertise “no money required.” Additionally avoid companies whose opportunities use terms such as “get rich.”
*All companies, individuals, or sponsors should have a means by which you can contact them.
*Education and training are going to be key components to your success. Ensure “YOUR” development needs will be continually met.
*Internet based business opportunities on the up and up should be willing to disclose their business models and share their tools and resources, thus helping you to duplicate their results.
*Do your due diligence, your comprehension of the compensation plans, services, and products offered are critical to achieving your goals.
*Ensure a money back guarantee and/or a trial period is offered.
Regardless of what opportunity you choose, a small investment of time spent on research will save you from countless hours of pain later. Once you’ve made your choice, be sure to remain committed, motivated, and driven. Don’t jump ship if your efforts don’t manifest quickly, allow for the learning curve…remember persistence, perseverance, and patience are the keys to becoming a successful entrepreneur with a profitable online business.
